The apartments were refurbished by the Vancouver Housing Authority as low-income housing in 1996. Being the low-rent district, the area is far from the nicest in town, but it isn't the worst, either. There are drugs and crime in the area for sure, but you won't see any crack deals on the corner. The apartments are next to a convenience store, a Subway sandwich shop, a Fatty Patty's restaurant, and are just off Highway 99, the major commercial strip in the Hazel Dell area.
