A 5-year-old boy from Brookline who was abducted by his non-custodial father in August was found safe Wednesday morning in Mexico.
Daniel Pearsall and his father, William Pearsall Jr., 47, of Harmony, Butler County, were found about 10 a.m. in Cancun by Mexican authorities who were accompanied by FBI investigators, said FBI Special Agent William J. Crowley.
Pearsall was arrested and the child was placed in protective custody.
They were flown to Florida yesterday afternoon, and the boy was met by an FBI agent from Pittsburgh and a deputy from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department.
They were flying last night to Pittsburgh International Airport, where Daniel was expected to be reunited with his mother.
The office of U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan has charged Pearsall with international parental kidnapping, Crowley said.
Pearsall is scheduled to have an initial appearance today before a federal magistrate in Miami.
His estranged wife called city police on Aug. 22 after Pearsall failed to drop off Daniel at a child care center in Baldwin Township as promised. Friends and relatives later told police and the FBI that Pearsall probably took Daniel to Mexico.
Crowley said several agents in the Pittsburgh office worked hard to find Pearsall and Daniel.
"There's a good feeling in the office that the boy will be reunited with his mother," Crowley said.
